Massachusetts Insurance
Massachusetts is officially called the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Also known as the Bay State, Massachusetts is one of the New England states, and borders the Atlantic Ocean, and several bays, on the east and southeast. The state entered the Union in 1788, as the sixth member of the original 13 states of the union. It soon came to be known as an important intellectual center, famous, till date, for Harvard University and the various cultural institutions in Boston. Six Native American groupings lived in the area, namely, Massachuset, the Wampanoag, the Nauset, the Pennacook, the Nipmuc, and the Pocumtuc.
From the 19th century onwards, Massachusetts developed into an important manufacturing state, first for textiles and footwear; and later for high-technology items like electronic components. Service industries including Massachusetts auto insurance, and Massachusetts health insurance, are also important to the state’s economy. Commercial fishing is of great economic importance in the state. Three American presidents, John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and John F. Kennedy, were born in Massachusetts, and a fourth, Calvin Coolidge, spent a large part of his life here. It is also renowned for its summer resorts, including Cape Cod.
The major manufacturing products are industrial machinery, office equipment, engines, high-technology electronic equipment, and precision instruments. These major industries require a large workforce in the state, which also requires a heightened requirement for Massachusetts health insurance and Massachusetts life insurance. This also requires that the Massachusetts insurance industry to be a large part of the economy in the state as well.
Massachusetts has an area of 9,241 square miles, with a coastline of 192 miles and a tidal shoreline of 1,519 miles. The geography, divided into six regions -- the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the Seaboard Lowland, the New England Upland, the Connecticut Valley Lowland, the Western New England Upland, and Berkshire Valley – ranges from plains, to the hillier areas, to fertile agricultural regions. The Western New England Upland is rougher, with deeply cut plateaus. Important rivers are the Charles River, wholly within the state, and the Housatonic, the Merrimack and the Connecticut. The area is prone to disastrous floods. Massachusetts has a humid continental climate with warm summers and mild winters. The coastal areas of the state experience severe storms, called the north-easters, and occasional hurricanes. The state also sees several tornadoes a year, making Massachusetts home insurance and Massachusetts life insurance an important industry.
Massachusetts has around 6,500,000 inhabitants, and the major cities include the capital Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Lowell, Cambridge, and New Bedford. Attractions include the summer resorts of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island. On many of these smaller islands resort areas, you will find beautiful seaside homes and resort locations, all requiring the Massachusetts insurance industry to play a large role in the economy.
