South Carolina Insurance

South Carolina, also known as the Palmetto State, is among the southern Atlantic coast states of the US. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and southeast and the Savannah and the Chattooga Rivers form its entire boundary with Georgia. The state of South Carolina entered the Union, as the eighth of the 13 original states, in 1788.

The economy was dominated by the state’s agriculture until, in the 20th century, manufacturing took over. South Carolina’s climate is humid subtropical in the rest of the state and humid continental in the Blue Ridge area. The low general elevation and the warm Gulf Stream in the Atlantic make the winters mild, and the Appalachian Mountains, screen the state from bitter cold air.

It is along the Atlantic coast where the state is most prone to experiencing severe weather. A large portion of the thunderstorms in the state form over the ocean and then move inland. The state has also take the brunt end of tropical storms that are the result of dying hurricanes that have hit the southern states.
