Texas Insurance
Texas is also known as the Lone Star State, the name being derived from the single star on the state flag. One of the southern states, Texas lies along the Gulf of Mexico, in the southeast, and the Red River is part of its northern boundary, while the Sabine River makes up a part of the eastern one. The Rio Grande forms its border with Mexico. It was organized and named the Republic of Texas when it became independent of Mexico, in 1836. Texas entered the Union as the 28th state, in 1845.
Although the Texan economy was dominated, the 19th century, by agricultural activities like cattle breeding, and cotton plantations, and other agricultural activities. Oil and natural gas became important cornerstones after the 1900s. Texas is the leading producer of fuels like oil and natural gas in the United States. Texas has an area of 267,277 square miles, and is the second-largest state in the US. The coastline runs for 367 miles and three islands, Galveston, Matagorda, and Padre, lie offshore. Geographically, Texas has four land regions - the Basin and Range, the Great Plains, the Osage Plains, and the West Gulf Coastal Plain. Principal rivers include the Pecos River, the Rio Grande, and the Nueces, Colorado, Brazos, and Red rivers. The climate is varied, from almost tropical to semi-arid, although the majority of Texas has a humid subtropical climate. The state has a population of over 24,000,000, while major cities include the capital city, Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, and Fort Worth.
The state has a variety of weather as well, all of which require residents of the state to have adequate levels of insurance coverage on their homes and cars. In the south, the state is susceptible to tropical storms and hurricanes from the Gulf of Mexico. In the panhandle of the state, severe snowstorms are not uncommon including winds capable of destroying buildings. The whole state is also capable of experience torrential rains that cause flooding.
