Illinois Insurance

The State of Illinois is located in the eastern north central part of the United States. It entered the Union as the 21st State on the 3rd of December 1818. It is also known as 'The Prarie State'. Ranked 24th in size, the state has an area of 56,345 square miles out of which 700 square miles is inland water area. The state boundaries are Lake Michigan and Indiana on the east, Wisconsin on the north, Missouri and Iowa on the west and Kentucky on the south. Illinois is the fifth most populous state in the US and is home to a diverse and cosmopolitan population, requiring a variety of Illinois health insurance and Illinois life insurance policies for the residents of the state.

Illinois falls completely within the Central Plains and has a monotonous flat topography broken only by hills lying in its northwest region. A continental climate that has extreme variations in temperature exists in most part of the state. The state is prone to high thunderstorm activity and is very vulnerable to tornadoes. Records indicate an average of 35 tornadoes every year.  Due to these drastic weather changes that may occur at a moment’s notice, it is imperative that Illinois residents invest in adequate Illinois home insurance and Illinois auto insurance policies in the state.

Even when there are around 2000 rivers and streams having a cumulative length of approx. 9000 miles, initial settlers encountered great difficulty due to poor drainage. They were constrained to construct an elaborate and costly system consisting of a network of tiled drains and ditches in order to make commercial agriculture feasible.

Two hundred and seventy five rivers of Illinois form effective waterways combining with railroads, airlines and a modern highway system to create an elaborate transportation complex. The Chicago district in Illinois stands as a great producer of iron and steel, grain exchange, meat packer and railroad center and also a Great Lakes port. The Great Lakes are connected to the Atlantic Ocean through the New York State Canal System.

Illinois occupies a high position among US states in terms of manufacturing, agriculture, coal mining and oil production. Being a leading producer of soybeans, corn and hogs it also produces other agricultural products; like wheat, oats, hay and sorghum and cattle as well. The manufacturing sector is engaged in production of food and agricultural processing, chemicals, transportation and computer equipment and industrial machinery. These industries require their own unique forms of Illinois insurance to protect their crops and business assets.

High industrialization, transportation, maritime business activities and natural hazards have made insurance a highly developed and necessary industry in Illinois. Illinois Home insurance, Illinois Auto Insurance, Illinois Life Insurance and Illinois Health Insurance along with other branches of insurance are a strong support to the Illinois economic system.
